Permanent is a multidisciplinary art experience that activates works by African and African-American artists in permanent collections of various art institutions. In partnership with signature art objects, ADAMA and Komansé Dance Theater reinterpret works of art through dance, music, film and more.
Permanent’s debut engagement references Radcliffe Bailey’s “EW, SN” 2011 from the permanent collection of Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. The Permanent team created an original performance piece featuring choreography and music inspired by themes in the work which was performed and filmed at the High Museum of Art in Spring of 2021. The piece features an original music composition by Orchestra Noir. The resulting film reveals the way the dancers and musicians embody Bailey’s ideas about migration, movement, mobility, and more.

PERMANENT: A Couple in Prospect Park (being together)
Permanent is a multidisciplinary art experience that activates works by African and African-American artists in permanent collections of various art institutions. In partnership with signature art objects, ADAMA and Komansé Dance Theater reinterpret works of art through dance, music, film and more. This edition references Dawoud Bey's "A Couple in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY" (1990), from the permanent collection of Atlanta's High Museum of Art.
“PERMANENT: A Couple in Prospect Park (being together)” references Dawoud Bey’s stunning image of a young couple in love in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park from 1990. Through original choreography and music inspired by themes of love and togetherness, we attempt to capture the essence of this primary emotion as well as Bey’s generative creative process. The unique collaboration between The African Diaspora Art Museum (ADAMA) and Komansé Dance Theater was performed at Fort McPherson as part of Elevate Atlanta and filmed at the High Museum of Art between October and November 2021. The project features an original music composition by Okorie Johnson and AshaTune.
